For how many people can I cook with OFYR?
How many people you can cook for depends on the size of your OFYR and what type of food is being prepared. Of course, the exact numbers also depend on the chef's skills.
How should I use my grill for the first time?
When using your OFYR for the first time, it's crucial to start with a small fire for about 30 minutes. This allows the cooking plate, which has a slight downward curve toward the middle, to settle and bend naturally as it heats up. Igniting a large fire during the initial use could lead to the cooking plate bending too far down for future uses.
What type of wood should I use?
Always choose high-quality wood that's clean and has minimal bark, preferably kiln-dried or very dry with no more than 20% humidity to reduce smoke and ensure easier ignition. Opt for harder woods like beech or ash over softer ones like birch, as they burn slower, requiring less wood. Exercise caution with tropical hardwood, as it generates intense heat that can warp the cooking plate if used excessively. Avoid green wood and coniferous species such as eucalyptus, elm, or sycamore, as they can taint your food and pose health risks.
Which oil is the best to use for cooking?
Every kind of vegetable oil can be used for cooking because of the higher combustion rate. It is best to start with olive oil. Olive oil has a lower combustion rate and will therefore form a a nice brown-black hue. After the first few uses (2-3 times) you can start using other oil types such as sunflower oil or groundnut oil, whatever your taste prefers.
How can I create temperature zones?
When the wood turns into coal you can start to create temperature zones by pushing around the coals. By pushing more coals to one side, the plate becomes hotter on that side.
